Systems Science, Engineering, and Management for Life Sciences and Medical Technology Companies

A Brief History

I have spent my entire professional career applying engineering principles to creating tools for life sciences and solving medical problems.

The last several years, I have specialized in providing systems science, engineering, and management expertise to Life Sciences and Medical Technology companies.

At Triple Ring Technologies, I helped grow the In Vitro Technologies practice area, which focuses on projects involving the integration of biology and technology. This involved building infrastructure, attracting and growing talent, improving internal processes, developing client relationships, and contributing to, managing, and overseeing projects.

Previously, I managed the Research Group and ideation activities at Molecular Devices, Inc. The Research Group’s primary mission was to provide scientific guidance and support in developing hardware and software tools to meet the unique needs of biology research scientists, primarily utilizing optical detection, imaging, and electrical measurement technologies.

My industrial career started in 2001 at a biotechnology startup, Signature BioScience, Inc., which developed some of the first label-free assay technologies based on bioimpedance. Signature’s technologies were eventually commercialized as the CellKey® 96 and 384 Systems by MDS Sciex and MDS Analytical Technologies and sold through Molecular Devices.

Before my industrial career, I was an Assistant Adjunct Professor in Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, where my research focused on multimodality cancer imaging (primarily using x-ray CT and molecular imaging).

I received my PhD in Bioengineering from the Joint Graduate Group in Bioengineering at the University of California at Berkeley and San Francisco in 1998. I also hold an MS in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona and a BS in Applied Physics from the California Institute of Technology.
